Dandelion
03:26
|
|
||
Baby, did you lock the gate?
Did you turn the lights out?
Babe I had a bad dream
Baby am I running late?
Or am I just losing count?
Is this all a bad dream?
Dandelion seeds on the wind
Baby, did you let them in?
Baby, let's not do this now
Hey I'm not saying never
But I don't think I'm ready
Yes I know the circle's round
But I can take forever
Getting myself ready
There's nothing wrong with feeling sad sometimes
an egg that's not been fertilized
Scream into the night, the animal inside is bristling and staring down your logical side
Baby if you marry me,
We'll live in the holler
of the wild oak tree
You'll have to take care of me
and we will live in squalor
but I will love you only,
I will love you only

Lonely Woman
03:14
|
|
||
There's a lonely woman inside of me
Making up a bed for company
Fire in the hearth, soup on the fire
Mending pillowcases as the sun retires
Morning comes, no-one came
The lonely woman fills with rage
She tears the blankets to shreds
Takes an axe to the bed
In the Paperchase, I am waves lapping on the day
Swaying like bull kelp in a muted summer storm
Grieving for my structures that have all been washed away
Rise into the next month, get some rest each evening
There's an angry people inside of me
Killing off eachother in blind fury
Fire in their eyes, villages on fire
Put the child down the mine, take whatever he finds
If he survives

Feels So
04:38
|
|
||
Feelings from a good place
Butterflies cause hurricanes
I'll lay you down love, lay you to waste
Cos It feels so good to,
feels so good,
feels so
Everyone has got a love so deep
Appearances are so hard to keep
You laugh and weep and laugh and weep
Cos it feels so good to,
feels so good,
feels so
I go and I don't look back
I love like a heart attack
I take my coffee black
Cos it feels so good to,
feels so good,
feels so
I don't want nothing but the very best for you, I want you to love and be loved so well, but I don't want to know about it, I don't want to see you out with somebody else, oh no

Skewered
02:19
|
|
||
I've been gone too long
You moved on along
I thought you would wait for me
What a stupid fantasy
If these are your new friends
Pledge alleigance
Wear your jersey proudly
Don't expect my hospitality
Choose which side you're on,
Fight long and hard for the cause
Your life force can only spread so far
You can only be where you are
If I'd looked a move ahead
I'd have moved my bishop
Now you've got me skewered
You bastard

Reflex
02:41
|
|
||
I don't have to tell my fingers what to do, they just move
Somehow without conscious thought they always make the right shapes
I taught em how, and now it's not something I have to think about
You made up your mind before you ever heard a single word
What's the difference between a thought process and a reflex?
You moralize as easily as you would breathe or blink your eyes
Chickens with their heads cut off don't need brains to run around and digest grains
It's generous to say you didn't think twice, you have a large brain but a spinal cord would suffice
When I say that you are lost, it's not to say I know the way
No-one's brain can really hold the whole meaning of anything
You filter out what you decide you don't need to think about
Tell me what am I supposed to do with conflicting truths?
How did you distill it all into one opinion?
It hurt to think, somebody get me a stiff drink
Chickens with their heads cut off don't need brains to run around and digest grains
It's generous to say you didn't think twice, you have a large brain but a spinal cord would suffice

Grown Ups
02:02
|
|
||
With a baby on the way, and a ring on your hand
These are legitimate grown-up plans
I have to admit I feel it too when I see those tiny fingernails
A house in the 'burbs and two cars out front
A cat and a dog and a jolly jumper
When you fell in love, I adored all her letters
pinned to your bulletin board
All the photobooth proof of something so deeply good
Why wait, if you've found your mate
and you're bound to make a deadline
the day that you die
Please when we're old
can we drink on the beach
dance in the shallow waves
and cut our feet

Point Of No Return
03:43
|
|
||
The frothing ocean & jagged rocks
A man gets a better look the closer he walks
It's hard to imagine what's going through his head
as he steps closer to the edge
There is a kind of visceral thrill
peering down at a drop that would kill
without going over you want to discern
The point of no return
You didn't eat a thing all day
Your stomach tried to flush nothing away
You sat on the front step with a sunburn to sing
Over its grumbling
There is a kind of visceral thrill
peering down at a drop that would kill
without going over you want to discern
The point of no return
There is a little kernel of truth
Standing behind a kissing booth
The understood rules of intimacy
& skirting their boundaries
There is a kind of visceral thrill
peering down at a drop that would kill
without going over you want to discern
The point of no return

Matryoshka
02:58
|
|
||
She lay on her back in the bathtub
and made small waves on the island of her belly
all alone in the company of her matryoshka
She lay on her side on the hardwood floor
curled up beneath the melting piano
the paintings on the wall melting down
into a rainbow puddle
She lay on her back on a stretcher
the nurse has dark skies
underneath his tired eyes
the janitor sang as she swept
The mountain range of heartbeats
sloping down to flatlands
the blue gloves reaching underground
to pull out the matryoshka

I Ain't Givin' Up On You
03:39
|
|
||
True love, wherever you might be, listen to me
it might seem like I'm giving up on you, but that ain't true
it's just late and I'm getting tired
I ain't givin' up on you, I've just got things I've got to do
I need time to think this through, so I am moving on
The longer you spend just looking for one thing
the harder that thing can get to find,
yeah you go blind
I'll come back to this in the morning
I ain't givin' up on you, I've just got things I've got to do
I need time to think this through, so I am moving on
Just the way a WHS degrades each time it's played
your memory is warmer every time it comes to mind
and I'm caught in the background noise
I ain't givin' up on you, I've just got things I've got to do
I need time to think this through, so I am moving on
I ain't givin' up on you, I just need a week or two
to walk a mile in my own shoes, so I am moving on
I am moving on

Darling Dark Cloud
02:14
|
|
||
Blackened baking pans
years of charred existence
island prison
she didn't look at the price
just the description
He makes popcorn
in his 3-piece suit
standing on the back step
adjusting a new watch
But somehow,
happiness stares back at me
with that same blank expression
She wants a man who'll come home
with dirt on his hands
instead he stands at the post office
lusting after the stamps
Taurus or Aries
He writes letters
to his darling dark cloud
words and drawings
always lift her shroud
But somehow,
happiness stares down at me
miming a single tear

Deep Fry
03:56
|
|
||
The tubes are packed with people moving at alarming speeds
the ants in the hill have all got their own hopes & needs
their lips move to the music pumping straight into their brains
their eyes avoid the gazes of the others on the trains
The air is filled with deep fry, weird vibes, and wi-fi
it's a stew of human energy
is there room for me in this city?
There's nothing you can show me that I ain't already seen
my life has flashed before me on a thousand little screens
and it broke my heart to find out that the sweet things that you said to me
were lines that you stole right out of some movie
Everyone is such a hypocrite and they don't realize
they speak in absolutes and they all generalize
it's such a hassle being so much smarter than everyone around
don't they know how full of themselves they sound?
The air is filled with deep fry, weird vibes, and wi-fi
it's a stew of human energy
is there room for me in this city?
What's your name?
Where are you from?
What do you do?
Where did you go to school?
What have you done?
Who exactly do you think you are?
